Short film —
FOCUS
During the first semester of the master's degree in Brussels faculty of architecture, I had the opportunity to follow the Architecture & Cinema course. The goal was to create a short-film on the relation between architecture and the lockdown. Our short-film Focus got in third place of the final jury and is now displayed in the temporary Lockdown Museum of Brussels University as well as the virtual exposition of our faculty, and has been chosen to be displayed in some movie festivals such La vi(ll)e de demain or Festiv'OPAC.
SYNOPSIS
In a situation of lockdown, how is it possible to escape from the feeling of isolation? The visual escape through the window frame, the painting on the wall or even the screen of our computer isn't sufficient during this total isolation, and it only plays a role of distant illusion of a real and lived social life. But how is it possible to reinvent relationships by reinvesting our housing space in order to make it a mean of creating new forms of social interactions and a source of collective escape? For this, we chose the story of a lonely, withdrawn photographer who spent her time outdoors obsessed by her work, taking pictures of lonely, isolated looking people, and this was her own way to have social contact through the lens. She paid no attention to the actual space of her apartment, as it seemed like a simple place of transition between two days of work, nor to relationships with others. As a result of the announcement of a lockdown, she finds herself trapped in this insignificant place to her, without having the opportunity to do what has made her happy until now. Through her experience of isolation, she realizes that her home is not only a good place for her work, but also a new way to connect with people. Finally, she discovers a certain pleasure in living and sharing her work, but also her life, with others.
