Fifth year (S9) — social project
Micro-cosmos
This project was a one-week project called the "sprint week" : on monday, the subject was discussed and explained, on friday, we had to present our final project. The challenge here was to use one of the 3 designated spaces in Brussels to create a project for homeless or immigrant people, whose number is important and increasing each year in the belgian capital.
An indoor neighborhood
This project is located on the first and second floor of one of the tower in the North Galaxy office complex between Progress Street and Simon Bolivar Esplanade. The main goal, as briefly mentionned, was to create housing to shelter homeless people and offer a safe place to young people, woman, children... for everyone.
The project is based on the idea of re-creating a small neighborhood -a microcosm- inside the building : a main street with street art, traditional housing with common and exterior spaces on the ground level, and more private spaces such as apartments (for 2 to 4 people) and single rooms on the first level, distributed by an opened passageway above the com- mon floor. This not only gives a chance for people to live under a roof and have access to bathrooms, laundromat or health care but also to meet new people, enjoy their time together and learn (classrooms, counselling, gardening, workshops...).
